‘Are you crazy? Do you know what our insurance carrier would say?’ - A senior editor at Life Magazine on learning that Pawling Associates Founder and Lead Writer Patrick Pawling had ridden a rodeo bull while researching a story.

About Patrick Pawling

Words, ideas … and a few adventures

While Patrick Pawling has extensive experience as a sales-oriented copywriter and content strategist for companies and agencies, his storytelling was honed in newspaper and magazine writing – from a tiny daily to the New York Times, Time, Life and Sports Illustrated.

In the pursuit of stories, he spent time at a combat outpost in Afghanistan where IEDs exploded nearby, crewed on a leg of an around-the-world sailboat race, rode a rodeo bull, reported on a brawl in the stands at heavyweight title fight, flew combat maneuvers (as a passenger) in a jet fighter and talked his way into the back seat of a jet-powered car for a ride that took him from zero to 300 mph in about 3.5 seconds.

Thanks to his magazine work he went boating with ESPN commentator and former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann (they went over 100 mph in an offshore racing boat); had dinner at a hole-in-the-wall bar with famous Wall Streeter Jim Cramer; and profiled jazz great Dizzy Gillespie, writer Dave Barry

During his time as a features, news and medical reporter, Pawling won multiple awards for healthcare/science/ medical writing, including two best-in-nations from the American Academy of Family Physicians and others from the New Jersey Press Association. He lives in Ocean City, New Jersey, with his wife and two teenage children and likes to kiteboard when the ocean and wind make themselves available.
